Yakisugi is a particularly striking Japanese method of preserving wood by charring it with fire. This piece of pottery has been formed by hand out of stoneware clay and fired in wood kiln to ~2345 F over a period of 4 days. It embodies the appearance of charred wood from the texture and ash deposit from the wood firing.
